Introduction
Merging two groups can help streamline tasks, resources, and responsibilities. This process requires careful planning and manual adjustments to ensure a smooth transition.
Key Considerations
- This is a manual process, so allocate enough time for careful adjustments.
- Double-check each step to ensure a seamless merge.
- If needed, document the process for reference or audit purposes.
By following these steps, you can successfully merge groups while maintaining task and resource integrity.
Steps to Merge Groups: Example Scenario
Imagine you have Group A and Group B, and you want to merge them into a single group named Unified Group.
- Choose a Name for the Merged Group
- For instance, rename Group A to Unified Group (this way, you will have all resources and tasks from Group A already in the Unified Group, and you will now need to migrate everything from Group B to this group.)
- Reassign Resources
- Reassign all resources from the Group B to Unified Group.
- Adjust Users’ Availability and Capacity
- Update the availability and groups’ capacity of all users in the Unified Group.
- Remove Resources from Obsolete Group
- Remove the reassigned resources (step 2) from the Group B.
- Reassign Tasks
- Manually reassign all tasks from Group B to Unified Group. It may be helpful to use the multiple reassignment option for this process. You can find more details in this article.
- Adjust the Budgets
- Update and adjust the module library to reflect the changes. Ensure all items previously associated with Group B are associated with the Unified Group.
- Adjust the Module Library
- Update and adjust the module library to reflect the changes. Ensure all items previously associated with Group B are associated with the Unified Group.
- Double-Check the Transiction
- Review all tasks, resources, and library adjustments to confirm no data or assignments are left in Group B. To streamline this process, we recommend using the Group Filter to quickly identify any remaining items.
- Verify that Unified Group functions as intended and includes all necessary elements from both original groups.
